Wakemen Town Farm Presentation

My mom (right) and my cousin (left)
Today my mom and I were asked by Mike Aitkenhead to make a presentation about our chickens. My mom was up all night editing and revising our presentation. My mom spent a lot of hard work getting this whole thing pulled together. When it came time to go my mom packed three baby chicks, two older hens, business cards, chicken purse and more. We did our presentation at Wakeman Town Farm. Tons of people came to hear us talk about chickens and how to get started. My mom did most of the talking because she is the one that did most of the research. I stood there as her assistant. When my mom asked me I would hand out business cards, let people pet Beatrice and let people pet our baby chicks.

After that we got tons of questions from the crowd. But the question that was asked most often was "Do you need a rooster to lay eggs?" You actually do not. Hens lay eggs regularly so there is no baby chick inside just yoke. But if a rooster where involved then there would be a baby chick. Questions like that are often asked but during the process of an answer a lady in the audience said that in an article it said that certain breeds of chicken need a rooster to lay eggs and that "fact" has not been proven wrong or right so it it still a mystery.

2 Besties!
I also made a few friends along the way. Their parents are interested in chickens and asked a few questions. We played and got along very well. In the photo we were playing with their dog and setting up the leash so he couldn't run away. I enjoyed educating them in the art of chicken keeping and I think its something to enjoy.

Now chicken keeping isn't for everyone. Some people like cats, dogs and guinea pigs which is fine but chickens are always fun. My mom and I have 4 white chair set up in front of our chicken coop so we can watch "chick television" it become more interesting scents the baby chicks have moved outside. My mom, dad and I have been checking on the chicks, hens and rabbit daily. I think raising all these animals are the beginning of a new chapter in my life that I hope never ends.

I think the presentation was helpful to our audience as well as for me because my mom did a lot of research on chicken keeping to put in the presentation as well as common knowledge. But I learned a lot of things I didn't know which was cool. Learning something new is like a burst of information in your mind finding room to stick.
